Ladyjacks Fall In Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team, after taking the opening set, dropped a 3-1 (25-20, 14-25, 19-25, 14-25) decision to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Thursday evening inside the Dugan Wellness Center.
The loss is the fifth consecutive for SFA (12-9, 4-4 SLC) on the road, falling to 2-7 on the season in away games.
Junior Paige Holland and sophomore Tori Bates highlighted a Ladyjack offense that was held to a .117 attack clip, recording eight kills each. Senior Leslie Jackson and sophomore Keeley Kainer each finished one off the pace of their teammates, recording seven kills. Holland finished with 27 assists for SFA across four sets against the Islanders (14-7, 9-1 SLC).
Sophomore Jacque Allen recorded four block assists, as SFA finished with six blocks as a team.
The Ladyjacks took a 7-6 lead on an Islander error and never looked back in a 25-20 opening-set victory. SFA hit a match-high .216 clip and got three kills each from Bates and Jackson, while holding the opposition to a .071 mark.
TAMUCC responded with a .571 attack percentage to win the second set 25-14 and even the match 1-1 heading into the break, before taking the final two sets to close out the match 3-1.
The Ladyjacks will look to snap their road-losing streak when they travel to Houston Baptist for a 1:00 p.m. meeting with the Huskies on Saturday, Oct. 19.
