The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team won a share of the 2004 Southland Conference title Saturday night after defeating Lamar, 3-0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-25), on Senior Night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks close out the regular season on a 17-match win streak and enter the SLC tournament as the league's top seed. The Ladyjacks are now 25-5 (.833) overall and finish the year 17-3 (.850) in SLC action.
SFA put the Lady Cardinals away fairly easy behind senior Brittany Burton's match-high 13 kills and six blocks. Sophomore Laura Cramer added 11 kills (.455 attack percentage) and 11 digs in the victorious effort.
Freshman Traci Rohde added nine kills (.562 attack percentage) while junior Lauren Stevens carded eight kills for the Ladyjacks. Freshman setter JJ Jones led all players with her 35 assists. Senior Deborah Kirkham finished off her final match in the coliseum with three kills, five digs, three blocks, two assists and a service ace.
The Ladyjacks will be in Beaumont, Texas, Friday Nov. 19 through Sunday Nov. 21, at the Southland Conference Tournament. The Ladyjacks will be the league's top seed based on the tiebreaker with Texas State and will receive a first-round bye in the tournament.
