NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin Volleyball Coach Debbie Humphreys announced the signing of three recruits to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday during the early signing period. Humphreys and her staff will welcome two outside hitters and one defensive specialist to the team next fall.

“We are extremely excited about the 2014 signing class. They have all had huge impacts on their high school and club teams,” Humphreys said. “They are good athletes with a good volleyball base to work from. I believe their transition to Division I volleyball should happen fairly quickly.”

Abby McIntyre signs with the Ladyjacks out of Foster High School where she was named District Offensive Player of the Year. McIntyre was a team captain and named First Team All-District and All-State. The Richmond native received recognition by VYPE Magazine as one of the top 25 players in the Houston area and was a finalist for the Under Armour All-America Team. This week McIntyre also was named her District MVP for her senior season.

“Abby is a powerful hitter who also has a solid back row game,” Humphreys said. “She has been recognized for her offensive talents on every team she has been associated with and has the tools to make an immediate impact at the outside hitter position. I expect her to adjust quickly to the speed of the game and the size of the block. She is a hard worker who will continue getting better every day.”

SFA’s other outside hitter signee is Kelsi Bartlett from George West High School. The 5-10 hitter also was named her District Offensive Player of the Year and earned First Team All-District. Bartlett was a multi-sport star for George West earning second team All-District Honors in basketball. She also won district and area championships in the 100 meter hurdles and was a regional qualifier in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles.

“Kelsi is an extremely dynamic athlete. She is quick off the floor and has a quick arm swing. Those are two qualities that you can’t teach,” Humphreys said. “With the tools she brings, we feel she will develop quickly as she adjusts to a higher level of volleyball. Kelsi has experience at every front row position, but we hope to utilize her on a pin.”

The final signee during the early signing period is Lexus Cain from Amarillo High School. The defensive specialist also earned First Team All-District and received District Newcomer of the Year honors her sophomore season. Cain also was named AGN Super Team Honorable Mention.

“Lexus has tremendous athleticism. She is extremely quick and has a very natural platform,” Humphreys said. “It is not only her physical gifts that are impressive, but Lexus has tremendous leadership qualities and is extremely mature. She has a great mind for the game and will help make others around her better.”

McIntyre, Barlett and Cain will join the Ladyjacks for the 2014 season this summer. Humphreys.

The Ladyjacks conclude the regular season on Saturday when they host the Northwestern State Lady Demons at 1 p.m. in Shelton Gym. The team will also recognize its two seniors prior to the match.
