
Ellis’ Qualifying Effort Leads the Way for SFA in Sacramento on Opening Day

SACRAMENTO, CA – A resilient effort in the pole vault earned freshman Branson Ellis a berth at the upcoming NCAA Championship meet in Austin next month, highlighting the opening day of competition at the NCAA West Qualifying Round. Branson's latest triumph came in the form of an eighth-place mark amidst a competitive field, twice staving off elimination by clearing a bar on his third and final attempt. Ellis was one of eight competitors to end the day with a clearance of 5.36m (17-7).
OTHER SFA PERFORMERS
• Dominique Jackson placed 26th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 59.96, narrowly missing the cut to Austin.
• Cayla Burch placed 28th in the women's 400m dash with a mark of 53.99, while teammate Imani Nave took 35th with a time of 54.27.
• Isaiah Pittman took 18th in the men's long jump with a distance of 7.35m (24-1.5)
• Tyler Stafford finished 25th in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 4.96m (16-3.25).
Competition continues on Friday afternoon with the women's discus at noon, followed by the running events taking place beginning at 6:00 p.m.
