SFA Cruises To 71-52 Win Over TLU

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks found the home cooking of the William R. Johnson Coliseum to their liking as they picked up their first win of the 2001-02 season 71-52 over Texas Lutheran Saturday night before 671 fans. The 'Jacks move to 1-2 on the season with the win as Texas Lutheran as falls to 1-2 with the loss.
Percy Green, a junior from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma once again led the Lumberjack charge as he scored 15 points in leading SFA. Ben Hunt, a junior transfer from Australia also added 12 points for the 'Jacks as the only other player in double figures. Danny Kaspar used his entire bench as fourteen Lumberjacks played at least seven minutes in the game.
Edwin Tatum led SFA on the boards as he picked up eight rebounds to lead SFA. The 'Jacks also outrebounded the Bulldogs 34-31 on the night. SFA also dominated the inside game as 24 of the 'Jacks 71 points in the game came in the paint.
SFA also found their shooting touch for the first time this season as they connected on 29 of 50 field goal attempts (.580). The 'Jacks had struggled from the floor in both losses to start the season. Meanwhile, the SFA defense held the Bulldogs in check as Texas Lutheran could manage only 18 of 51 from the floor (.353).
SFA returns to action Tuesday night in the coliseum as they play host to the Rice Owls in a 7:00 p.m. tip. Rice enters Tuesday's match-up at 2-1 on the year, coming off a 108-80 loss to Colorado, Thursday night.
