HAMMOND, La. (AP) - Backup guard Jasen Gast led all scorers with 13 points - more than triple his previous average - as Stephen F. Austin overcame a 28-20 halftime deficit to beat Southeastern Louisiana 55-42.
SFA (5-3, 2-0 Southland) had hit only 38.1 percent from the field in the first half, but raised its total to 48.7 percent over the game.
Gast had been averaging 4 points a game, but hit all four field goals - three of them 3-pointers - and two of four foul shots.
Southeastern (1-5, 0-1) led by six, 32-26, with 14:58 to play. But SFA got the next 15 points to lead 41-32 advantage with 6:59 remaining, and led by 14 points (55-41) with 1:27 left.
After shooting 56 percent from the field in the first half, Southeastern managed to hit only five of 22 field goal attempts in the second half. Fourteen of those attempts were for 3-point goals, only two made it.
Derrick Franklin led Southeastern with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
