Skip Jackson hit a 12-foot jump shot with less than two seconds to play to gove the Lumberjacks a come-from-behind 52-51 win over the Indians of UL-Monroe Saturday afternoon in the coliseum. SFA 12-13, 9-9 trailed the Indians 17-11, 13-5 by six at the half but fought back to take their first lead of the game, 34-33 on a three pointer by Jackson at the 14:29 mark of the second half.
SFA was able to hang onto the lead, stretching it to as many as seven points before UL-Monroe finally re-took the lead 47-46, with just over three minutes to play. SFA managed to tie the Indians on two occasions in the final minutes only to fall behind again with :12 to play when Kirby Lemons hit one of two free throws to give ULM a 51-50 lead.
G Tim Simon drove the ball down the floor, hit Jackson on the wing, and Jackson got the shooter's bounce to fall and give SFA the win. F Percy Green helped SFA dominate things inside as he scored 20-points to lead the 'Jacks. Green also led SFA on the glass with six rebounds. G Nick Coln led ULM with 17-points, 12 of which came in the first half on three pointers.
The 'Jacks outrebounded the much larger Indians by a 33-29 count and scored 26 points in the paint to the Indians' 16. C Wojceich Myrda, the NCAA'a all time leading shot blocker did block three shots, but was limited to only two points and six rebounds in the game.
F Ransom White fouled out of the contest with four points and four rebounds on a questionable call from officials with over 11 minutes remaining in the game.
SFA shot only .357 from the field in the game, but connected on 9 of 12 free throws (.750) to provide the winning margin. It marked the first time this season that SFA has shot less than 40% from the field and still won the game.
The Lumberjacks close out the home portion of the schedule Tuesday night as they host UT-San Antonio in a 7:00 p.m. tip-off.
