
SFA Basketball Schedule Released

NACOGDOCHES, Texas-- A trip to a regular season tournament at Iowa State and non-conference games against teams from Conference USA and the Southwestern Athletic Conference, as well as, 16 Southland Conference games highlight the 2004-05 schedule for the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team. SFA will open the season with an exhibition game against Midwestern State, Nov. 11. SFA opens the regular season Nov. 20, on the road, against South Florida. The Bulls will spend the 2004-05 season as a member of Conference USA and will become a member of the Big East Conference next year. Following the trip to South Florida, SFA returns home to host Concordia-Austin in the home opener, Nov. 23. The `Jacks close out the month of November as one of four teams at the Cyclone Challenge, hosted by Iowa State. SFA will take on Northern Colorado in a first round game, Nov. 26, then face either Iowa State or Bucknell Saturday. Four of the six games scheduled for the month of December will feature teams from the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The month begins with back-to-back road games against Grambling State and Alabama A&M, before returning home Dec. 11 to host Jackson State. Following a week off for final exams, SFA travels to Shreveport, La. to take on Centenary, then returns to the William R. Johnson Coliseum for the final game before the Christmas break, hosting Alabama A&M. Howard Payne and Houston Baptist close out the non-conference portion of the schedule in late December and the first week of January before Southland Conference action opens Jan. 6 as Northwestern State pays a visit to the coliseum. SFA has only one conference home game in the month of January, but the tables turn in February as the `Jacks play five of eight conference contests in Nacogdoches. The regular season winds to a close the first week of March with a re-match of the SLC Tournament finals from a year ago when SFA visits UT-San Antonio for the only scheduled meeting of the year, March 1. The regular season closes March 4, at home, against UL-Monroe. The Southland Conference tournament opens March 7 and runs through the championship game March 12 at campus sites. The tournament finals will once again be aired on ESPN2. Practice for the 2004-05 season opens with Midnight Mardi Gras, Saturday, Oct. 16.
