Softball Finishes Louisiana Classic 3-2

LAFAYETTE, La.- Stephen F. Austin finished the Louisiana Classic Tournament with a 12-0 win over Lafayette College and a 12-0 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette. SFA moves to 3-2 on the season while Lafayette College falls to 0-5 and Louisiana-Lafayette improves to 5-0.
Game 1
The first score of the game came in the top of the second inning when Chloe Reneau hit a sacrifice fly which scored Lexi Benson, 1-0. SFA's offense exploded at the end of the game with five runs in the top of the fourth and six in the top of the fifth. Camryn Middlebrook got the scoring run started in the fourth with a two-RBI single to center field, 3-0. Gaby Garcia hit a grounder to the pitcher with allowed Middlebrook to score, 4-0. Sydnee Hebert then stepped up to the plate and hit a rocket down the right field line, 5-0. Then Mackenzie Bennett hit a double to left center to extend SFA's lead, 6-0. In the fifth Middlebrook got the scoring started again, this time with a double down the left field line, 7-0. Madison Nguyen then reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Reneau to score, 8-0. Hebert hit her second double of the game down the right field line which scored Nguyen and Middlebrook, 10-0. Bennett brought in the final runs of the game with a single to right field that scored Hebert and Garcia, 12-0.
Middlebrook led the Lumberjacks with three hits and tied for the lead with three RBIs. Hebert and Bennett each recorded three RBIs and two hits. Reneau, Nguyen, and Garcia each recorded an RBI. SFA recorded five doubles against Lafayette. Alexis Telford recorded the win as she pitched four innings and only allowed two hits and recorded four strikeouts.
Game 2
The No. 24 Cajuns jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning while the Lumberjacks struggled to get anything going on offense. Louisiana-Lafayette then scored four runs off of a grand slam in the third inning, and added on two in the fifth to seal a 12-run victory. Garcia was the lone Lumberjack to record a hit, which was a double to right center.
SFA will have their home opener this Wednesday, February 15th against South Dakota State. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3:00 p.m.
