BASTROP, Texas – Sophomore Angelo Leyvani notched back-to-back sub-par rounds Monday over the opening two rounds of the Jim West Intercollegiate, sitting tied for second overall with a 5-under 139. Leyvani has paced SFA to a seventh-place showing after day one at 4-over 580.

Leyvani opened up the day with a 3-under 69, his first sub-70 round of 2016-17. The sophomore was even through the opening nine holes, then carded a 3-under 33 over the back nine to post the 69. Round two played out in similar fashion for Leyvani, notching an even-par 36 on the front nine, followed by a 2-under 34 over the back nine to finish at 5-under 139. He now has 10 rounds of par-or-better on the year, including shooting under par in four of his last five rounds.
Leyvani holds a four stroke lead on senior teammate Major Monzingo, sitting tied for 17th overall with a 1-over 145. Monzingo opened the day with a 1-over 73, followed by an even-par 72, capped by an eagle on 18 to close out the morning round. Senior Cory Brown is just outside the top-20 with a 3-over 147, tied for 25th after a 1-over 73 and a 2-over 74.
Freshman Zach Sudinsky is fourth on the Lumberjack scorecard at 5-over 149, beginning the day with a 3-over 75, followed by a 2-over 74 in the afternoon. Junior Blake Stock closed out the SFA competitors at 12-over 156, shooting a 7-over 79 and a 5-over 77 through the first 36 holes.
As far as the team standings are concerned, SFA finds itself in a seven-team bundle, sitting just six shots out of first place. The Lumberjacks trail sixth-place Oral Roberts (3-over 579) by just one stroke and are two shots back of fifth-place Louisiana-Lafayette (2-over 578), holding a comfortable five-stroke lead on host Texas State (9-over 585) in eighth.
Rice hold the team lead at 2-under 574, leading Southeastern Louisiana (1-under 575) by one stroke after 36 holes. New Mexico State (Even-par 576) is third overall with UT-Arlington (1-over 577) and Louisiana rounding out the top-five as six shots separate first from seventh.
Tuesday’s final round gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. as the Lumberjacks will tee off on holes 8-13, playing with Texas State and rival Sam Houston State in the final round pairings.
