ABILENE, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks Basketball Team (6-6, 0-2) coming off an 11-day holiday break, get set for the second half of the season as they square off with former WAC opponent Abilene Christian University (8-6, 0-0) in a mid-week matchup with the Wildcats.
Lumberjacks at a Glance:
The Lumberjacks fresh off their holiday break will look to use that time off to end their non-conference schedule with a bang. SFA will also look to pair the momentum from their last game with the time off to start the second half of their season on a strong note as they are fresh off the heels of a dominating 82-56 win over the Texas Wesleyan University Rams. A game that saw five different Lumberjacks record double-digit points in the blowout win while the Lumberjacks never trailed in the win as they took an early 11-0 lead over the Rams and never looked back.
Wildcats at a Glance:
The ACU Wildcats will return home looking to get back in the win column as they fell to the Texas A&M Aggies on the road in their last game. The Wildcats have also had their fair share of stiff competition so far in their non-conference schedule as they have drawn a pair of ranked matchups against the aforementioned no. 13 ranked Aggies, and the no. 25 ranked Baylor Bears. The Wildcats have been a tough team to beat at home this season as they have scored over 80 points in four of their six home games, which has helped lead them to a 5-1 home record this year.
Scouting Report:
Keon Thompson has been a revelation for the Lumberjacks offense as of late as he has drawn a start in three of the last four games for SFA and has recorded double-digit points in three of those four games. More impressively, Thompson has recorded two 20-point scoring efforts against UTRGV and Texas Wesleyan while recording at least one steal and two rebounds in every game. Matt Hayman has been a mainstay in the SFA lineup this year as he has drawn a start in all 12 games and has recorded consecutive double-digit point scoring efforts, while recording double-digit points in nine of 12 games this year. Meanwhile, Nana Antwi-Boasiako has been stuffing the statsheet for SFA this year as he has tallied three double-doubles to lead the team, while joining Hayman as the only Lumberjack to start in all 12 games this year.
Leonardo Bettiol leads the Wildcats offense as he averages 15.1 points/game for ACU. Quion Williams has formed a solid scoring duo with Bettiol as he follows closely behind in scoring with his 14.6 points/game average. Hunter Jack Madden rounds out the top scorers for the Wildcats as he leads the team with 29 three-pointers made, leading to an average of 10.4 points/game for him.
Series:
Tuesday's midweek matchup between these two former WAC rivals will feature the 43rd all-time meeting between the two schools, with SFA leading the all-time series 27-15. The last time these two schools met, made for an unforgettable game in WAC Vegas as SFA knocked off the Wildcats in the opening round of the WAC Tournament last season as AJ Cajuste hit a buzzer beater three-pointer to down the Wildcats and send SFA to the second round of the WAC Tournament.
